ICEE optometrists have just finished a 3 week service delivery trip to the Northern Territory, working in Aboriginal communities, alongside the local Aboriginal Eye Health Workers.
The clinics have expanded into four health regions in the Northern Territory. Twelve different communities were visited and 360 patients seen, with approximately 75% requiring spectacles and 50% diabetic. The majority of towns and communities visited were very remote.
The Community Health Clinics, Aboriginal Eye Health Workers and patients are all very grateful and appreciative of the optometry services that ICEE is continuing to provide. They are excited about the Health Worker Training Programs being planned for early next year.
